Bazaar app store joins GNOME Circle

Bazaar, a modern application store focused on Flatpak, has officially joined the GNOME Circle initiative. This move integrates the project more closely with the GNOME ecosystem, providing access to infrastructure, promotion, and collaborative opportunities with other desktop components.

Bazaar is being discussed as a key element for the upcoming GNOME 52 release, expected in spring 2027. While often referred to as a potential successor to GNOME Software, the two tools are expected to serve different roles. GNOME Software manages a broad range of tasks, including native packages, system updates, and firmware. In contrast, Bazaar is specialized for Flatpak applications, particularly those from Flathub.

Under proposed plans for GNOME OS, responsibilities may be split: system updates could move to GNOME Settings, while Bazaar handles Flatpak software. The impact on other Linux distributions that rely on GNOME Software for package and firmware management remains to be seen.
