Baze University promotes mental health awareness during 8th Career Week
Baze University in Abuja recently concluded its eighth Career Week Programme (BaCWeP), which focused on the theme, “Prioritisation of Mental Health: Beyond Lip Service.” The two-day event, held on October 6 and 7, 2026, aimed to encourage students and staff to move from mere conversation toward practical action regarding psychological wellbeing.
Activities included a mental health awareness walk to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), where university representatives toured facilities and met with medical staff. Following the walk, the university conducted free medical screenings for its community members.
The programme also featured a symposium with mental health professionals and advocates. Discussions centered on stress, anxiety, depression, coping mechanisms, and the importance of early intervention and peer support. Vice-Chancellor Professor Abiodun Adeniyi emphasized that mental health conditions must be treated with the same seriousness as physical illnesses to reduce stigma and support academic and professional success.
