ÖBB plans double‑track line and flood‑protection works between St. Pölten and Herzogenburg

The Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) is preparing a major upgrade of the railway corridor between St. Pölten and Herzogenburg, with a second track slated for completion around 2036. The project includes barrier‑free island platforms at stations such as Traisenpark, Unterradlberg, Oberradlberg, Viehofen and St. Pölten‑Traisenpark, each equipped with lifts, bike‑and‑ride facilities and new underpasses to replace level crossings.

Additional measures comprise flood‑protection works along the Gorbachgasse, a new railway bridge over Dr.‑Adolf‑Schärf‑Straße, and a shift in electrification between Herzogenburg and Krems to improve service capacity. ÖBB spokesperson Christopher Seif noted that the environmental impact assessment is expected to take longer than usual, influencing the project timeline.
