ÖBB Rail Cargo Group expands fleet with 500 new scrap‑transport wagons
ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) is adding 500 new Eanos‑y freight wagons designed for light‑metal and scrap transport. The first deliveries began in early 2026, with 110 wagons already in service by the end of July. The full complement is expected by mid‑2027.
Each wagon offers about 95 m³ of loading volume – roughly 15 % more than standard models – and a payload capacity of around 65 tonnes. Built with higher‑strength steel and equipped with GPS‑based telematics, the wagons aim to speed loading, lower maintenance costs and improve fleet efficiency. RCG’s board member Bettina Castillo says the upgrade supports the steel and recycling sectors and aligns with the company’s long‑term fleet‑modernisation strategy.
