BBC appoints Rachel Jupp as Director of News and Current Affairs

The BBC has appointed Rachel Jupp as the new Director of News and Current Affairs. Jupp, who currently serves as Director of BBC News Documentaries and Long Form Journalism, will oversee a team of 4,500 staff and manage broadcasting to approximately half a billion people in over 40 languages.

Jupp joined the BBC in 2013 and has held several high-profile roles, including Editor of Panorama and Deputy Editor of Newsnight. She also recently led the corporation’s approach to artificial intelligence. Her appointment follows a competitive recruitment process and comes nearly a year after the previous director, Deborah Turness, stepped down.

BBC Director-General Matt Brittin praised Jupp as an outstanding editorial leader with a “clarity of vision for the future.” Upon her arrival, Jonathan Munro will return to his role as Deputy Director of News and BBC News Global Director.
