BBC Breakfast presenter Rachel Burden leaves after 10 years

BBC Breakfast co‑presenter Rachel Burden announced that the July 12 edition was her final show, posting a farewell message on Instagram and thanking colleagues after more than a decade on the programme. Her exit is part of a wider BBC restructuring that will see the Sunday edition of BBC Breakfast dropped from September as the corporation seeks to cut £80 million from TV, radio and news output.

The changes were outlined by newly appointed director‑general Matt Brittin, who aims to simplify the BBC and merge several news units. Colleagues such as Nicky Campbell and Matt Chorley praised Burden’s work, while viewers flooded social media with support. The move follows broader schedule alterations that will also see other long‑running programmes reduced or merged.

Burden, 51, also co‑hosts BBC Radio 5 Live’s weekday breakfast show. Her departure highlights the impact of the BBC’s cost‑saving programme on on‑air talent and weekend broadcasting.
