BBC cancels crime drama ‘The Cage’ after one series

The BBC has decided not to recommission the crime drama ‘The Cage’ for a second series. The five-part series, which premiered in April, stars Sheridan Smith and Michael Socha as two characters whose lives collide after they both attempt to rob a Liverpool casino.

Despite receiving critical acclaim, including a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and praise from The Observer for its sharp writing, the production will not continue. A BBC spokesperson expressed gratitude to creator Tony Schumacher, Element Pictures, and the entire cast and crew, describing the series as ‘powerful and poignant.’

While ‘The Cage’ has concluded, Element Pictures remains involved with other upcoming BBC projects, including the rom-com drama ‘You Are Here’ and the second season of the thriller ‘Nightsleeper’.
