BBC confirms return of Top Gear after four-year hiatus

The BBC has officially confirmed the return of its iconic motoring program, “Top Gear,” following a nearly four-year hiatus. Ed Havard, the BBC’s director of entertainment, made the announcement during the Edinburgh TV Festival.

Production of the show was suspended in late 2022 after presenter Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff was seriously injured in a high-speed crash involving a three-wheeled Morgan Super 3 on the program’s test track. Flintoff reportedly received a £9 million settlement following the incident.

While the BBC has not officially announced a new lineup of presenters, significant speculation surrounds potential hosts. British comedian Jimmy Carr and former rugby player Joe Marler have been widely reported as candidates under consideration. Havard noted that Carr “would be a great host” but declined to confirm any specific talent deals at this time. Further details regarding the new series are expected to be released shortly.
