BBC explores using AI for Doctor Who production

BBC Director General Matt Brittin has suggested that artificial intelligence could play a role in the future production of the iconic science fiction series, Doctor Who. Brittin noted that he had viewed a 50-minute episode of the show created via AI and described the result as ‘quite good’.

While Brittin emphasized that the technology is not intended to replace human workers, he indicated that the BBC is exploring tools capable of producing content that meets Hollywood studio standards. This exploration comes as the broadcaster faces the challenge of reducing expenditures while maintaining its reputation for high-quality programming. Some industry speculation suggests the AI-generated content may be linked to fan-led projects such as ‘The Unmade Season’.
