BBC Make a Difference Awards honor community heroes

The 2026 BBC ‘Make a Difference’ awards have recognized various community heroes across Devon and Wales for their extraordinary contributions and acts of kindness.

In Devon, 13-year-old Dylan received the Young Hero award for his long-term commitment to making food parcels for the homeless in Torbay. Additionally, the Totnes-based men’s mental health group, The Dough Bros, won the community award. Operated by Resilient Lives CIC, the group uses artisan pizza making as a way to foster connection and support for men facing anxiety and social difficulties.

In Wales, Dylan Allman was honored with the Animal Award for his ‘Be Hedgehog Aware’ campaign. His efforts have successfully raised awareness regarding hedgehog safety and influenced manufacturers to include warning stickers on garden machinery. Other notable winners include Ted Williams, who received the Environmental Award for converting neglected land in Carmarthenshire into a wildlife and community garden.
