BBC presenter Glyn Lewis dies at 53

Glyn Lewis, a continuity announcer and director for BBC Wales, died at the age of 53 in early August 2026. He joined the corporation in 1995, beginning with BBC Radio Cymru before moving to television presentation on BBC One and BBC Two in Wales, where his voice was heard for more than 27 years.

Outside his broadcasting work, Lewis was known for his drag personas Edna Clouds and Sister Gloria Snockers. He helped establish the Cardiff chapter of the charitable order Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, later renamed the House of the Chiffon Borg, which supports the LGBTQIA+ community and promotes sexual‑health education.

Colleagues, friends and members of the LGBTQIA+ community posted tributes, describing him as “proudly and authentically himself” and praising his warmth, kindness and professionalism. Interim BBC Wales director Garmon Rhys expressed deep sadness at the loss.
