BBC removes scenes and episode from Horrible Histories
The BBC has heavily edited the children's comedy series Horrible Histories, removing at least seven sketches and an entire episode to comply with editorial standards for children's programming.
According to reports, the removed content includes depictions of slavery in ancient Rome, Victorian child labor involving chimney sweeps, and a sketch showing Madame Tussauds creating wax masks from severed heads. Additionally, scenes featuring white actors using darker makeup to portray ancient Egyptians or Incas have been cut from BBC iPlayer.
Actor Mathew Baynton, who appeared in the series, previously addressed criticisms regarding the show's depiction of ancient Egyptians, noting that while the production used spray tans rather than blackface, the portrayal could be interpreted as such.
