BBC Scotland presenter Anne McAlpine departs amid workforce cuts
Anne McAlpine, a prominent presenter for BBC Scotland, has announced her departure from the broadcaster after 14 years. Known for her work on Reporting Scotland and Landward, McAlpine stated she is “heading into a new chapter” and will continue working in broadcasting as a freelancer. She will remain the narrator for Scotland’s Home of the Year, which is produced by an independent company.
Her exit coincides with a major cost-cutting programme at the BBC, which aims to reduce the corporation’s total workforce by approximately 10 percent, or roughly 2,000 roles. In Scotland, about 60 positions are reportedly at risk.
Douglas Fraser, a former BBC Scotland business and economy editor, has warned of a potential talent exodus. Fraser claimed that the number of senior presenter roles is expected to decrease from nine to seven, potentially forcing high-profile personalities to compete for the remaining positions. He noted that uncertainty is high and morale is low within the organization due to these restructuring plans.
