BBC to end long-running Ski Sunday programme

BBC Sport has announced the cancellation of its long-running winter sports programme, Ski Sunday, after nearly 50 years on air. The show, which first debuted on January 8, 1978, has been a staple of British winter sports coverage, featuring downhill racing, ski jumping, and alpine culture.

The decision is attributed to evolving audience viewing habits and the need to meet financial savings requirements. BBC Sport stated that the move is part of a continuous review of how the broadcaster delivers value for licence fee payers. While the programme is ending, the BBC remains committed to covering major winter sports events, specifically the Winter Olympics.

Philip Bernie, Head of BBC Sport Events, described the programme as “truly iconic” and expressed gratitude to the teams that produced it. The broadcaster has not yet confirmed the final airdate for the concluding episodes.
