BBC's Gone Fishing pays tribute to Ted the dog

The ninth series of Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing premiered on the BBC with a special tribute to Ted, the beloved Patterdale Terrier that had become a staple of the program.

Ted, the companion of hosts Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse and the pet of executive producer Lisa Clark, passed away in April. The special episode featured the hosts fishing for chubs and barbels at the River Ribble in Lancashire. At the conclusion of the episode, a message reading “Ted. 2012-2026” appeared on screen accompanied by music from The Divine Comedy.

Viewers expressed significant emotional responses on social media, with many describing the canine as the “star of the show” and praising the tribute as a beautiful farewell to a character that had been part of the series since its third season.
