BBL gas pipeline marks 20 years of service between Netherlands and UK

The Balgzand-Bacton Line (BBL), a 235-kilometer undersea gas pipeline connecting the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, has reached its twentieth year of operation. Since its inception in 2006, the connection has served as a vital component of the energy infrastructure in Northwest Europe.

Operated by the BBL Company—in which Gasunie holds a 75 percent stake—the pipeline facilitates the secure and reliable transport of natural gas across the North Sea. The installation in Anna Paulowna, North Holland, serves as the Dutch landing point where gas is processed and integrated into the network. The connection is noted for providing stability in gas supply and energy prices, contributing to energy security and predictability for energy-intensive industries and logistics companies in the region.
