Central Bank of Türkiye reports declining inflation and rising Lira deposits

Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye Governor Fatih Karahan addressed the Turkish Grand National Assembly, stating that the disinflation process continues despite a loss of momentum caused by geopolitical uncertainties and energy price shocks. Karahan noted that the main trend of inflation has been declining since July and expects the process to regain momentum as shocks subside, provided the tight monetary policy stance is maintained.

Regarding financial markets, Karahan reported that outflows from money market funds have largely shifted toward bank deposits. This trend has accelerated since the second quarter, driving the share of Turkish Lira deposits to over 61 percent of total deposits. He emphasized that the preference for the Lira remains consistent with its current market share.

In September, annual consumer inflation in Turkey fell to 29.73 percent, dropping below the 30 percent threshold for the first time since November 2021. While energy prices saw significant increases, other sectors like food experienced more stable or declining price trends. The Central Bank remains committed to using all necessary tools to achieve price stability.
