BBVA scales artificial intelligence across group to drive transformation
BBVA is scaling its artificial intelligence strategy across the entire group through a new framework called ‘The Frame’. This initiative aims to create, deploy, and govern AI agents to drive a customer-centric transformation. President Carlos Torres Vila stated that AI offers an exceptional opportunity to create value for customers, employees, and shareholders, aiming to replicate the success of the bank’s previous digital transformation.
Deutsche Bank has noted the potential for this move to improve efficiency and commercial capabilities, though it emphasizes that real gains require organized data and human supervision. Early results from BBVA’s pilots show that AI assistants already filter more than half of manager conversations in Spain, and voice agents successfully resolve nearly 90% of interactions in pilot programs.
In the broader financial and insurance sectors, experts are discussing the rise of agentic AI. McKinsey notes that while modernizing core systems remains essential, the true value for insurers will lie in what they build atop that architecture. Additionally, AI agents could potentially disrupt traditional banking by helping savers find higher-yield alternatives, challenging the traditional deposit model.
