BC adds eight recovery beds in Alberni Valley to expand addiction treatment

The British Columbia government, in partnership with Island Health, will add eight new supportive recovery and stabilization beds at the Inlet Recovery Home in Port Alberni. The 24‑hour, bed‑based service is aimed at people aged 19 and older who are dealing with substance‑use challenges, offering 30‑ to 90‑day stays and a continuum of care that includes goal‑setting, wellness programming and transition support.

Health Minister Josie Osborne announced the expansion as part of the province’s “Road to Recovery” model, emphasizing the need for treatment options closer to home amid rising drug‑poisoning incidents in the Alberni Valley. Island Health has contracted Connective, a community‑based non‑profit, to operate the facility, which is expected to begin accepting patients in late summer 2026.
