BC councils approve funding for Courtenay and Lavington outdoor pools

The Comox Valley Recreation Commission has asked staff to examine the implications of the regional district assuming borrowing responsibility for the $32.5 million replacement of Courtenay’s outdoor pool. The city voted in November 2025 to proceed with the most expensive option after 62 % of residents supported replacement, and the commission approved the request by an 8‑3 vote.

In Coldstream, the district council voted to spend up to $25,000 to replace a damaged 35‑foot pipe at the Lavington outdoor swimming pool, which has been closed due to gravel entering the circulation system. Repairs are expected to allow the pool to reopen around August 8.
