BC groups launch voter outreach tools ahead of municipal elections
A coalition of 11 advocacy groups in the Greater Victoria area, operating under the name Liveable CRD, is creating a candidate scorecard for the upcoming October municipal elections in the Capital Regional District. The scorecard will grade candidates on nine topics such as climate, housing, healthcare and transportation, assigning a letter grade from A to D based on responses to 65 questions.
Separately, the BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA) has opened a three‑minute online survey that runs until August 7, asking residents across the province which animal‑welfare issues matter most. The SPCA says the results will inform its advocacy and help shape animal‑control bylaws ahead of the Oct. 17 local‑government election.
Both initiatives aim to increase civic participation and guide policy priorities as voter turnout historically remains low in the province’s municipal contests.
