B.C. Highway Patrol reports 229 impaired driving bans this summer
The B.C. Highway Patrol reported that 229 impaired driving prohibitions were issued during the 2026 Summer Impaired Driving Campaign, which ran from June 15 to July 31. This figure is significantly lower than the 626 prohibitions issued during the same period in 2025.
Superintendent Lori Orstad noted that the decrease in numbers may be attributed to several factors, including a shorter campaign duration of six weeks compared to ten weeks last year, and temporary staffing redeployments to support the FIFA World Cup in Vancouver.
Regional breakdowns of the prohibitions include 97 in the South Coast, 58 in Northern B.C., 32 on Vancouver Island, 24 in Central B.C., and 13 in the Kootenay region. Of the total prohibitions issued province-wide, 18 were related to drug impairment.
