BC Hydro opens first EV fast-charging site in Esquimalt

BC Hydro has launched its first electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging site in Esquimalt, British Columbia. Located in the parking lot of the Archie Browning Sports Centre, the facility features three 180-kilowatt fast chargers.

The station is designed to accommodate up to six vehicles simultaneously through power-sharing technology. When two vehicles use a single 180-kilowatt charger, the power is split, providing up to 90 kilowatts to each. Depending on the vehicle, these chargers can add approximately 180 kilometres of driving range in about 10 minutes. The units are compatible with a variety of electric vehicles via CCS, CHAdeMO, and NACS connectors.
