BC Hydro restores power following wildfires in Southern Interior

BC Hydro crews are working to restore electricity across British Columbia’s Southern Interior following damage from several wildfires, including the Bradley Creek, Big Bar, and Bald Range fires. In the Bradley Creek area, power has been restored to approximately 2,700 customers, and crews have replaced nearly 200 power poles. While main distribution line energization is expected to continue through the weekend, some customers near Armstrong and along Westside Road remain without power.

In the Summerland area, crews are managing a major rebuild due to the Bald Range wildfire. More than 200 damaged poles have been identified, and assessments are ongoing. Approximately 262 BC Hydro customers in this region remain without electricity.

Amidst the infrastructure repairs, Premier David Eby addressed resident frustration regarding the lack of official information concerning property damage in Summerland. Eby emphasized the need for compassionate, direct notification to homeowners once assessments are complete, noting the challenges posed by misinformation and AI-generated imagery during active fire zones.
