BC Hydro Restores Rogers Pass EV Chargers After Month-Long Outage

BC Hydro announced that the two electric‑vehicle charging stations at the Rogers Pass summit on the Trans‑Canada Highway are back in service after a month‑long outage that began around June 25 due to a faulty transformer. Repairs required a replacement transformer and specialized equipment, delaying the restoration until July 24. The two chargers at the Illecillewaet brake‑check further west remain out of service, leaving a 70‑km stretch of Highway 1 without charging facilities.

During the outage, EV drivers were forced to travel to charging stations in Revelstoke or Donald, about 120 km apart, and the failure also knocked out lighting in the five Rogers Pass snowsheds, leaving motorists in darkness until Parks Canada and BC Hydro resolved the issue.
