BC NDP candidate criticizes Langley Conservatives over trade war stances

Langley-Willowbrook NDP candidate Andrew Mercier has called on British Columbia Conservative leader Lorne Doerkson to demand that three Langley-area Conservative MLAs retract social media posts regarding the trade war with the United States.

Mercier criticized MLA Harman Bhangu for calling Mark Carney’s Davos speech “self-indulgent” and accusing him of “provoking Trump.” Mercier also noted that Bhangu previously shared a debunked conspiracy theory regarding the January 6 Capitol attack and had skipped a vote to condemn Trump’s tariffs.

Additionally, Mercier targeted posts by MLAs Misty Van Popta and Jody Toor. Van Popta suggested border issues should be addressed without tariffs, while Toor called for urgent action to stop “illegal mass migration of criminals and terrorists.” Mercier argued these positions fail to support “Team Canada” and urged Doerkson to denounce the comments and demand apologies.
