BC RCMP begins phased rollout of new navy-blue uniform shirts
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in British Columbia has begun a phased introduction of new navy-blue uniform shirts for frontline officers. This change is part of a national modernization effort that commenced in the spring of 2025 and has been expanding province-by-province over the last year.
During this transition, the public may see officers wearing either the traditional grey shirts or the new navy-blue versions, as both remain official attire for the foreseeable future. Specialized units, including the Emergency Response Team (ERT), the Uniform Gang Enforcement Team (UGET), and the Underwater Recovery Team (URT), will continue to wear their existing unit-specific uniforms or plain clothes.
In response to concerns regarding potential police impersonation, the RCMP advises citizens to ask for official identification or contact their local detachment’s non-emergency line to verify an officer's identity. The organization stated the update aims to modernize the force while maintaining professionalism and public trust.
