BC SPCA rescues 46 animals from farm for adoption
The BC SPCA has taken in 46 animals after their guardian’s living arrangements changed. The group includes 22 cats and kittens, 16 Call ducks, six Muscovy ducks, one sheep, and one goat.
The animals have been distributed to various BC SPCA locations, including Kamloops, Kelowna, South Okanagan/Similkameen, and Surrey, to receive specialized care. The organization utilizes three dedicated barns in Kelowna, Nanaimo, and Surrey to provide for the unique needs of farm animals.
Due to the nature of farm animals and those living in large groups, the BC SPCA is implementing heightened biosecurity protocols, including infectious disease testing and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Officials noted that farm animals typically remain in care longer than domestic pets, averaging 29 days before adoption.
