BC Transit and Unifor negotiations collapse in Victoria
Negotiations between BC Transit and Unifor Local 333-BC have collapsed, potentially leading to renewed transit disruptions in Victoria. Mediation sessions held on September 28 and 29 failed to produce a tentative agreement, despite resolving some outstanding issues.
Unifor Local 333-BC has warned that if a new collective agreement is not reached by October 5, the union will end its current pause and resume an overtime ban that originally began on September 1. The union has called for increased public investment to ensure fair staffing and reliable service.
BC Transit has indicated that the potential job action could result in trip cancellations and delays within the Victoria Regional Transit System. However, the organization noted that Victoria handyDART services will not be affected. BC Transit is currently developing business continuity plans to manage the impact of further labour action.
