BC Transit announces service changes in Nanaimo and Victoria

BC Transit is implementing several service changes across British Columbia. In Nanaimo, seasonal service for various routes, including Route 5 Fairview and Route 40 VIU Express, will resume on September 6, 2026, to coincide with the start of the school year. Additionally, the Regional District of Nanaimo will begin offering free transit for youth aged 13 to 18 starting on that date.

In Victoria, direct BC Transit service to the Victoria International Airport will commence on September 8. This service, operating as Route 72A, will include a limited number of daily trips from downtown and Swartz Bay. The plan involves re-routing the existing Route 72 bus for specific early morning and late evening trips to provide a cost-neutral connection to the airport.
