Italy implements waste controls and urban security measures
Various Italian municipalities and organizations are implementing measures to address environmental issues and urban security. In Brindisi, local police reported 148 administrative fines issued since May due to illegal waste abandonment, noting that such incidents are often linked to tax evasion. Similarly, in Bari, authorities sanctioned a business owner for abandoning glass bottles, warning of potential business closures for repeat offenders.
In Siderno, the local administration is launching a large-scale environmental awareness campaign titled ‘Il mio quartiere è un bene comune’ (My neighborhood is a common good), involving schools, associations, and the Coast Guard in cleaning activities and tree planting. In Malnate, a McDonald’s-led initiative successfully collected over 20kg of waste through volunteer efforts.
On the security front, a conference in Cuneo brought together local police and forestry officials to discuss the integration of urban surveillance technologies, such as drones and bodycams, while balancing operational needs with privacy regulations.
