BCCI Centre of Excellence aims to transform Indian cricket development

The BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru has evolved from the former National Cricket Academy into a high-performance facility focused on the scientific development of Indian cricketers. Spanning over 40 acres, the center integrates technical coaching with sports science, nutrition, biomechanics, and medical rehabilitation to manage player workloads and reduce injury risks.

However, the facility faces challenges regarding specialized staffing. VVS Laxman, head of the CoE, reported difficulties in appointing a new Sports Science and Medicine head, noting that several shortlisted candidates have withdrawn from the role at the last minute.

These staffing issues coincide with rising injury concerns within the Indian national team. Former cricketer Mohammad Kaif has criticized the current management of player health, citing the absences of key players like Jasprit Bumrah and Sai Sudharsan ahead of the series against Sri Lanka as evidence that injury prevention and expert oversight must be improved.
