BCCI Chief calls for better infrastructure as Irani Cup returns to Kashmir

BCCI President Mithun Manhas has welcomed the return of high-profile domestic cricket to the Kashmir Valley, noting that the Irani Cup is being held at the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium for the first time in nearly four decades. The match features Jammu and Kashmir against the Rest of India.

Manhas emphasized that improving cricket infrastructure is essential to attracting more domestic and international matches to the region. He urged the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) to prioritize stadium development, suggesting that facilities should expand beyond Srinagar and Jammu to include areas such as Rajouri, Poonch, and the Chenab Valley.

During the opening day of the match, Jammu and Kashmir bowled out the Rest of India for 237 runs. Manhas also highlighted the success of local talent, citing Baramulla-born pacer Auqib Nabi’s recent ODI selection as an inspiration for aspiring cricketers in the Union Territory.
