BCCI Considers VVS Laxman as New India Chief Selector Amid Ajit Agarkar Tenure Review

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reviewing the contract of chief selector Ajit Agarkar, whose tenure is set to end in September 2026. Reports indicate the board may not extend his term and is weighing former India batsman VVS Laxman as a possible replacement.

The decision is expected to be discussed at the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting in September. Agarkar, who has led the selection panel since 2023, oversaw three ICC titles – the 2024 and 2026 T20 World Cups and the 2025 Champions Trophy – and managed a major transition of senior players. No final appointment has been announced yet.
