BCCI intervenes to conduct independent cricket trials in Arunachal Pradesh

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has intervened to conduct independent selection trials for Arunachal Pradesh’s men’s and women’s cricket teams. This move aims to prevent further forfeitures and protect players' careers from the impact of an ongoing legal deadlock between two factions of the Arunachal Cricket Association (ACA).

The dispute is currently pending before the Gauhati High Court’s Itanagar Bench. Due to the internal conflict, Arunachal Pradesh has already forfeited its opening Ranji Trophy fixture against Nagaland, as well as participation in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy and the Under-19 Women’s T20 Trophy.

BCCI Apex Council member M. Khairul Jamal Majumdar has been appointed as the convener for these trials. To ensure impartiality, a panel of independent selectors from Assam—comprising former players Satya Gopal Chakraborty, Jayanta Chowdhury, and Deep Bora—will oversee the process. The trials are intended to ensure the state can field teams for upcoming domestic competitions, including the Ranji Trophy, Col CK Nayudu Trophy, Senior Women’s T20 Trophy, and Vijay Merchant Trophy.
