BCCI reviews player fitness and rehabilitation amid rising injury concerns

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is addressing a surge in player injuries that has sidelined several key members of the national team. High-profile players including Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Sai Sudharsan, and Washington Sundar are currently managing various injuries such as knee swelling and muscle strains, preventing them from participating in upcoming series.

BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia and VVS Laxman recently met at the Center of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru to review rehabilitation and recovery processes. This visit comes amid concerns regarding the fitness levels of players and the pressure within the sports science department, which has been without a head since Nitin Patel's resignation in early 2025.

Reports suggest a potential link between the intensity of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and these injuries. Claims indicate that franchise pressures and salary considerations may lead players to play through injuries during the IPL, resulting in them arriving at the CoE in unfit condition. This cycle complicates recovery timelines and poses significant challenges for the national team's management.
