BCCI reviews team performance amid questions over Ajit Agarkar's future

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) held a review meeting in Mumbai to discuss the national team’s recent performances in Ireland and England, where the limited-overs squads faced significant challenges. Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar was notably absent from the meeting. BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia clarified that Agarkar could not attend because the meeting was called on short notice while he was traveling in an area without reliable video conferencing capabilities.

Agarkar’s absence has fueled speculation regarding his future, as his current contract is set to expire at the end of September. While some reports suggest the BCCI is divided on whether to retain him or appoint VVS Laxman to the role, Saikia stated that no discussions regarding Agarkar’s contract extension took place during this specific meeting. A final decision on the selection committee leadership is expected to be addressed during the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 18.
