The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) held a high-level review meeting in Mumbai on September 3, 2026, to address the senior men's team's recent overseas struggles, including defeats in Ireland and England. Key attendees included head coach Gautam Gambhir, captain Shubman Gill, T20I captain Shreyas Iyer, and Centre of Excellence head VVS Laxman.

A major focus of the meeting was the future of veteran players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja, particularly regarding the roadmap for the 2027 ODI World Cup. While reports had circulated suggesting Rohit Sharma might retire from ODIs following the England series, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia dismissed these as rumours, stating Sharma remains part of the team's plans.

The board also addressed critical player fitness and workload management issues. Discussions included injury recovery for players like Hardik Pandya and managing the impact of the IPL on international schedules. To improve performance in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia), the BCCI plans to restructure the Future Tours Programme to allow for better acclimatization and rest.
