BCCI to negotiate Ajit Agarkar contract amid Rohit Sharma ODI dispute

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to meet with chief selector Ajit Agarkar following the series against Sri Lanka to discuss his contract extension. Agarkar, who has served as chairman of the selection committee for three years, is eligible for a one-year extension, though the BCCI has expressed interest in retaining him until the 2027 ODI World Cup.

The meeting is complicated by internal disagreements regarding the future of captain Rohit Sharma in One Day Internationals (ODIs). While selectors reportedly intended to phase Sharma out of the format following a series in England, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia publicly stated that Sharma would remain part of the team plans.

The BCCI has proposed a compromise where selectors evaluate Sharma’s position on a series-by-series basis to ensure his availability through the 2027 World Cup. This discrepancy between the administration and the selection panel has reportedly caused tension within the organization.
