BCEAO authorizes 104 institutions for instant payment services

The Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) is expanding its Interoperable Instant Payment System (PI-SPI) platform. As of July 31, 2026, 104 institutions across the eight countries of the West African Monetary Union (UMOA) have been authorized to offer these services to the public.

Senegal leads with 24 authorized institutions, followed by Côte d’Ivoire with 23, Mali with 14, and Burkina Faso with 13. Other participating countries include Benin, Togo, Niger, and Guinea-Bissau. The PI-SPI platform enables 24/7 instant money transfers.

In Burkina Faso, the authorized entities include traditional banks such as Ecobank, Coris Bank International, and BOA-Burkina, alongside microfinance institutions like Baobab and COFINA. Orange Money is the only mobile money operator authorized in the country for this service.
