BCEAO raises electronic money limits for UEMOA users
The Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) has announced an increase in electronic money limits within the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA). Effective November 2, 2026, the maximum balance allowed in electronic wallets will rise from 2 million FCFA to 4 million FCFA.
Additionally, the monthly cumulative recharge limit will increase from 10 million FCFA to 15 million FCFA. These changes, introduced via Instruction No. 020, aim to provide users with greater financial flexibility and support the growth of the PI-SPI instant payment platform.
The reform also eases regulations for issuers. The minimum proportion of funds that must be held as demand deposits in banks will decrease from 75% to 65%, allowing issuers to allocate more resources to other authorized investments, provided they maintain prudent liquidity management.
