BCHC partners with PJHL to launch new Junior A development pathway in BC

BC Hockey announced a junior development agreement between the newly formed British Columbia Hockey Conference (BCHC) and the Pacific Junior Hockey League (PJHL). The BCHC, now holding Junior A status, will cooperate with PJHL clubs to create a clear progression for athletes from U20 development to Junior A, offering greater exposure and options for advancement to the WHL, NCAA and college hockey.

The BCHC includes former KIJHL Kootenay Conference teams such as the Beaver Valley Nitehawks, Nelson Leafs, Grand Forks Border Bruins, Kimberley Dynamiters, Fernie Ghostriders and Columbia Valley Rockies. The eight Lower Mainland PJHL clubs will operate as the province’s U20 Junior Development league under the Canadian Junior Hockey League umbrella. The agreement aims to streamline affiliations, call‑ups and permanent advancement for players.

BCHC communications director Sarah Smith said the framework “strengthens player development opportunities” while commissioner Jeff Dubois highlighted the “trusted development pathway” to higher levels. PJHL co‑commissioner Dave Newson called it “a new era of junior hockey in B.C.” The partnership follows recent restructuring of the KIJHL, which saw teams leave to form the Western International Junior Hockey League and led to the creation of the BCHC.
