BCI leads Mozambique’s top five banks with $52M half-year profit
Mozambique’s five largest banks recorded a combined net profit of approximately $125 million during the first half of 2026. Banco Comercial e de Investimentos (BCI) led the sector, reporting consolidated net profits of roughly $52.3 million.
Other major performers included Standard Bank Moçambique, which posted approximately $35.1 million in profit, and Absa Bank Moçambique, which earned about $17.1 million, marking a 29.6% year-on-year increase. Millennium bim reported profits of approximately $16.4 million, a 37.2% decline compared to the same period in 2025. Moza Banco returned to profitability with net profits of around $4.3 million, following losses in the previous year.
Collectively, these five institutions—which include systemic banks BCI, Millennium bim, and Standard Bank, as well as near-systemic Absa Bank Moçambique and Moza Banco—hold total assets exceeding $13.1 billion and customer deposits above $10.1 billion.
