Bäckerei Millahn files for insolvency in Elmshorn

The traditional bakery Bäckerei Millahn, operated by Elmshorner Backstuv GmbH, has filed for preliminary insolvency proceedings at the Pinneberg District Court. The company, which was founded in 1977, operates 12 branches and employs 66 people across Elmshorn and the surrounding Pinneberg district, including a location in Klein Offenseth-Sparrieshoop.

According to the preliminary insolvency administrator, Jennie Best, several factors contributed to the financial crisis. These include the loss of two major customers, rising costs for energy and raw materials, increased minimum wage requirements, and high rates of employee sick leave.

Despite the insolvency filing, the company stated that production and sales are currently continuing as usual. Management is actively searching for investors to secure the long-term future of the chain and preserve existing jobs.
