Bäckerei Wahl bakery chain files for self‑administration insolvency, 400 jobs at risk
The Bäckerei Wahl GmbH, a German bakery chain with 54 locations in Brandenburg and Berlin, has filed for insolvency in self‑administration. More than 400 employees face uncertainty as several branches, including sites in Potsdam, Mittenwalde, Zossen and Berlin‑Schmöckwitz, are slated to close from 1 August. CEO Anett Wahl cited sharply rising costs and reduced customer spending as the main reasons for the filing. Production will continue at the company's plant in Bestensee. Legal adviser Jörg Franzke, overseeing the restructuring, said the business has a solid core and good prospects for a successful turnaround.
