BDA and DGB call for increased education investment in Germany

The Confederation of German Employers' Associations (BDA) and the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB) have issued a joint appeal for increased and more effective public investment in education. This rare collaboration follows declining results in student performance studies and aims to address the growing shortage of skilled workers.

At the ‘Together for Better Education’ conference in Berlin, leaders from both organizations emphasized that educational success must not be determined by social background, place of residence, or parental income. The primary goals are to reduce the number of young people lacking basic competencies and to decrease the number of individuals without school or vocational qualifications.

The associations linked these educational reforms directly to Germany's economic stability and demographic challenges. They argued that as birth rates decline, the country must maximize individual potential to secure the future workforce and maintain economic competitiveness.
