Bădăcin hosts political history symposium and Ionel Pop exhibition

The Zalău County Museum of History and Art is organizing a scientific symposium titled ‘Political Life in the 19th–20th Centuries’ at the Iuliu Maniu Memorial House in Bădăcin on September 18, 2026. The event will bring together researchers from various Romanian cities to discuss topics such as the modernization of society, the National Peasants' Party, and the interwar political regime.

Coinciding with the symposium, the Brukenthal National Museum is hosting a temporary exhibition titled ‘Aspects of a Destiny: The World of Ionel Pop, Reflected in Private Collections’. Curated by Andreea Corca, the exhibition reconstructs the biographical universe of Ionel Pop, a prominent lawyer, writer, and member of the National Peasants' Party.

The exhibition features family photographs, manuscripts, correspondence, and artifacts related to Pop’s interest in nature and hunting. These items, held in the private collection of Alexandru Bârsan, serve as a historical record of the interwar elite during a period when the communist regime attempted to erase such legacies through nationalization and social marginalization.
