Be the Light Society awards $50,000 in scholarships to South Asian girls
The Surrey-based non-profit organization Be the Light Society (BTLS) has awarded $50,000 in scholarships to twenty South Asian high school students in British Columbia. Each recipient received $2,500 to support their pursuit of post-secondary education.
Inspired by the spirit of Diwali, the organization held a luncheon at Skye Avenue Kitchen & Lounge to celebrate the students' academic achievements and resilience. Since its inception, BTLS has awarded a total of 62 scholarships, amounting to $155,000 in educational support.
Advisory board member Karen Dosanjh noted that the initiative aims to help young women overcome unique cultural, financial, and systemic barriers to education and leadership. The organization plans to donate another 20 scholarships in 2027.
