Beach sports expansion and environmental recovery in Brazil

Beach tennis is experiencing significant growth in Brazil, with estimates from the Brazilian Tennis Confederation showing a rise from approximately 400,000 practitioners in 2021 to 1.1 million in 2023. This 175% increase is driven by the sport's transition from a seasonal coastal activity to a regular urban routine involving local arenas and clubs. This shift has also influenced consumer behavior, with a growing demand for sportswear that balances visual identity with functional requirements like durability and quick drying.

In Maceió, environmental revitalization projects have enabled the hosting of national sporting events. The recovery of the Salgadinho Stream and the revitalization of the waterfront, supported by the Renasce Salgadinho project, have transformed a previously polluted area into a venue for competitions such as the sixth stage of the Brazilian Beach Volleyball Circuit (CBVP). The infrastructure improvements include sewage pumping stations and filtration systems designed to prevent waste from entering the sea, facilitating tourism and local economic activity.
