Bear Alexander faces scrutiny after incident involving UCLA QB Nico Iamaleava

Oregon defensive tackle Bear Alexander is facing scrutiny following a controversial incident during a college football game against UCLA. Video footage appeared to show Alexander striking UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava in the head while the quarterback was down on the field.

While Alexander may argue he was attempting to strike the ball, observers noted the contact occurred after Iamaleava was already down by contact. Iamaleava exited the game following the play; UCLA officially designated him as out with a lower body injury, though social media discussions focused on the perceived blow to his head.

The Big Ten conference holds the authority to review the incident under its sportsmanship policy. The commissioner has the power to determine if an offensive act occurred and can impose discipline, which typically includes fines and suspensions of up to two games. More severe penalties require approval from the Big Ten’s Joint Group Executive Committee.
